Borla is paving the way for EV inclusion with exhaust…speakers?

This is exhausting.

Throughout many generations of automotive enthusiasts, I think we’ve all encountered “that guy” who turns up to the meets. You know, the one that exclusively buys their car mods from Autozone’s front desk impulse buys, wish.com (or Temu now), and Amazon. Turbo whistles, fake chrome, stupid decals, and fake hood scoops, his car has got it all. Well, all except for the 150 additional horsepower of the car his upbadge suggests it to be.

Should look something like this.

Most people give that guy the benefit of the doubt because they assume he’s just a stupid teenager, not a 33 year old man named Brandon who works the night shift at Denny’s as a dishwasher and has two kids, never married. Brandon has about as much potential in this world as a Kia Soul does to not catch on fire spontaneously at least once in its lifetime – slim to none.

But what happens if one day Brandon won $75k on one of the gas station scratch tickets he buys every Thursday, offering him a new lease on life? After taxes, he would have approximately $58k – just enough for a brand new Mustang Mach E and Borla’s new $1700 speaker to make it sound like a real fucking car.

Yes you heard that right, the reason the EV that just blasted through a stop sign in the name of sustainability sounded like a V8 isn’t because someone did a 100% badass LS swap…but because the driver bought a speaker for the same price it takes to get an N54 from 300hp to 500hp. Absurdity aside…wouldn’t it be cheaper to tape a $100 bluetooth speaker to the back of your car?

“Rev it” 💀

I guess the whole point of many EV owners buying this would be to make car enthusiasts like myself mad…and it worked. Listen, I can deal with EV drivers bragging about how they’ll beat fast cars or laughing at our ever-fluctuating gas prices while the government shells out tax breaks & billions in infrastructure to make sure EV ownership prices go down and their TSLA stock goes up. But once you make me break my neck for a Mustang Mach E…you’ve crossed a line that wasn’t meant to be crossed. Not cool dude.

But I would happily literally break my neck before saying “nice ride”.

The weird thing here is that Borla is arguably one of the most reputable and best aftermarket exhaust brands…so this is an odd choice. The bag they must have received from Ford to create this atrocity must have been ENORMOUS. You’d think if any aftermarket car company had stake against the push for EV’s, Borla would probably be #1 on the list. It just feels sacrilegious. It’s a Temu-grade car mod sold by a performance exhaust brand for 100x the price.

“That’s the equivalent of drinking non-alcoholic beer”

Hopefully this isn’t a new trend – I already find myself having to hold back from grimacing enough talking to EV owners who brag about their cars, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes off. I’d love to see a good ol’ WhistlinDiesel durability test on one of these things, just saying…
